What could you recover before it is written off?

Split your stock by how long it has sat without moving. See the provision your accounts are likely to need, and how much cash you could get back by returning, clearing, reworking or recycling the slow-moving part.

Provision policy

Percentage of each band your accounts provide against. The defaults are an example of a common age-based policy, not a rule: use your own policy.

Routes for slow-moving stock

For stock over 6 months old: the share you could send down each route, and the share of its cost you would get back. Recovery rates vary widely by product; use your own where you can.

This is an estimate from the figures you enter. Nothing you type is sent anywhere unless you choose to send it with the form.

How it works

The sums, in plain sight.

Provision is each age band times the percentage you provide against it. The default policy is an example only: your accounting policy and your auditors decide the real one.

Cash recoverable is the slow-moving stock sent down each route times the share of its cost that route returns. Return to supplier usually recovers most, if your terms allow it; recycling usually recovers least.

Stock that is recovered no longer needs a provision, so acting early helps both cash and profit.
