How much cash is sitting in your stock?

Four numbers from your accounts show what your stock cover is today, what it would be at a target you choose, and the cash and yearly cost tied up in the difference.

From your last full-year accounts.
Raw materials, work in progress and finished goods, at cost.
What borrowing costs you, all in. We start at 7%.
Storage, insurance, handling and write-downs. We start at 8%; use your own if you know it.

This is an estimate from four numbers, not a stock review. Nothing you type is sent anywhere unless you choose to send it with the form.

How it works

The sums, in plain sight.

Stock cover in days is your stock value divided by annual cost of sales, times 365. The stock you would hold at your target is cost of sales times the target days, divided by 365. The difference is the cash you could release.

The yearly cost of holding it is that cash times your cost of funds plus other holding costs. Change any assumption to match your business.
